Do you hear what I hear?

I think XM satellite radio should have a channel that plays white noise sounds around the clock. Of course, I'm thinking this would be handy for putting a baby to sleep, but there are plenty of adults who would enjoy this while going to sleep, too.

(Funny thing: Whenever I refer to "adults" in my posts and while talking, I almost always catch myself writing/saying "real people" first, as though babies aren't also real people.)

Mark me down as being guilty of enjoying white noise while I sleep. But mine was not by my own choosing. Tim has sleep apnea which requires him to sleep with a C-Pap machine that constantly pushes air into his nose so his throat doesn't collapse and he dies in his sleep (pleasant, right?!?). So for the past 9 years I have slept tandum with this wonderful whirring sound that gently lulled me to sleep. So 2 months ago he had a new sleep study done and got a brand spanking new machine. Well low and behold this one is SILENT. Talk about staying up all night! When I would get to sleep I would wake up soon after wondering where Tim was because I couldn't hear his machine. Turns out he was right next to me and I didn't even realize it. So I had to go out and buy a new alarm clock with a white noise function. That really helps me sleep, I never realized how much I relied on that little bit of noise to help me go to and stay asleep. You might look into one of those kind of clocks for the baby if it helps her sleep too. When my babies were little I could vaccuum their rooms while they slept, they never even noticed it. Guess we all like a little background noise.

Oh yeah, and I meant to mention that we have found one of the XM stations that works well for her...it plays things like music with birds chirping in the background and tunes with running water on top of it. She seems to like it just fine. Before that, we were just tuning the regular radio to a non-station and letting her listen to the white-noise static. That also worked well, but was annoying for me to hear through the monitor.
